Hosting Is Dead

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about customer-owned cloud, DevPanel's role, and the Hosting Bill Autopsy process.

What does “Hosting Is Dead” mean?

It means the traditional assumption that one hosting provider must own the infrastructure, control the platform, meter usage, bundle support, and send one combined bill is becoming unnecessary. Infrastructure and support still matter. The operating model is changing.

What is customer-owned cloud?

Customer-owned cloud means the cloud account or subscription belongs to the customer rather than the platform provider. The customer controls the commercial relationship and governance, while a platform such as DevPanel helps operate applications inside it.

Does DevPanel replace AWS or Azure?

No. Cloud providers supply infrastructure services. DevPanel supplies the application platform, automation, operational workflows, and optional expert support.

Do we have to manage the cloud ourselves?

No. Owning the account does not require the web team to operate every underlying service. DevPanel can provide implementation, operations, and support appropriate to the engagement.

Is DevPanel another hosting reseller?

DevPanel's customer-owned-cloud model is designed around infrastructure billed directly to the customer by the cloud provider.

Does this automatically make our applications compliant?

No. Compliance depends on architecture, selected services, configuration, contracts, policies, and operations. Customer ownership can improve governance and control, but it does not create automatic compliance.

Will DevPanel always cost less?

No universal savings claim is appropriate. Cost depends on the current contract, sites, traffic, cloud architecture, support, and operational scope.

Can DevPanel support Drupal?

Drupal organizations are the primary audience for this campaign. The platform also supports WordPress and other application workflows.

What is a Hosting Bill Autopsy?

It is a personalized review of the information you provide about your current platform, approximate sites, traffic, costs, and operational requirements.

How long does the review take?

DevPanel will respond within three business days.

Do I need an invoice?

No. Uploading an invoice is optional. Without current-cost information, DevPanel can discuss architecture and likely cost categories but cannot calculate current savings accurately.

Can I use the review for a new project?

Yes. Select the new-project or shopping-around option and provide whatever information is available.

What happens to an uploaded invoice?

The document is stored privately for the review and automatically deleted after 30 days.

Can I connect Google Analytics?

Not at initial launch. A read-only Google Analytics connection is planned for a later phase. The launch form accepts approximate traffic ranges.

Can I schedule a call immediately?

Yes. After submitting, you can use the embedded TidyCal scheduler.
